Sunday 30th July saw the premier edition of the ‘African Pride Awards 2016‘ at Café de Paris, Leicester square. Nominees, guests and recognition awardees all glamorously dressed to celebrate the cream of lifestyle and entertainment personalities in the African sector in the UK. Special recognition award winners included DJ Abass, DJ Gab ,Tee Ali, femi Amusan, Ropo Akin who all won prestigious recognition awards on the night. The shining star however was one of Africa’s leading lady’s in entertainment and founder of Women4Africa, Tola Onigbanjo aka WiseTola who, dressed in an immaculate red top by “Lolars Fabrics” Stole the show as the only Female recognition award winner in a long array of men. She proved once again that hard work and dedication really does pay off. Upon being handed her award, Tola dedicated the award to the mother of the late Sam Sarpong, from one mother to another. Tola was honoured with the prestigious ‘Patrice Lumumba’ Recognition Award.
The award ceremony was solely set up to honour Africans making incredible strides in their different industries in the UK and diaspora at large. The night thoroughly showcased the African culture in all its splendour with top entertainers from comedy , music and dance thrilling the guests. Hosted by popular UK broadcasters Adesope Olajide and Amanda Star ( of Factory78,Vox Africa, BenTV and Beat FM respectively) , the gala night was well attended with over 350 attendees and celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment . With stars such as Chris Eubank Jnr, Larry Ekundayo , Tim Westwood, May7ven, Shiikane and WildNOut”s Kojo the comedian amongst the attendees. Winners also included World heavy weight champion Anthony Joshua , Afrobeats superstars Fuse ODG and Wizkid and the late Mtv host Sam Sarpong.
