LET’S TALK ABOUT SKIN…..HOME SPA PAMPERING!!! Part 2
In this concluding part of Home Spa Pampering I am going to recommend money saving tips on how to take care of Oily, Combination and Sensitive skin using Inexpensive ingredients from your kitchen!!!
May be genetic and the oil is being produced below the surface of the skin, which makes it hard to control because it may also be a result of hormonal changes in your body.
Use a gentle cleanser, wash twice a day , washing more than that results in your skin being stripped of its natural moisturisers and increase oil production. Avoid using harsher products which may increase dryness and cause irritation.
CASTOR OIL AND OLIVE OIL CLEANSER….
If you want to try the Oil Cleansing Method please use the following:
• 1/3 castor oil ( It is a natural astringent, helps pull impurities from the skin)
• 2/3 extra virgin olive oil ( It is an anti oxidant also contains Vitamin a and b which is great for
repairing the skin)
Warm 3 to 4 drops between your fingers, gently massage onto the skin. Apply warm towel onto your face , wipe off the oil. I use damp cotton pads to wipe off , I love the feel of water on my face so I always wash of with lukewarm water.
Tip: NEVER USE CASTOR OIL UNDILUTED. Start mixing small amounts eg 1 teaspoon castor oil and always add TWICE the amount of the other oil 2 teaspoons of olive oil until you get the perfect ratio.
HONEY AND LEMON CLEANSER….
• Squeeze half juice of lemon
• Add 1 tablespoon of honey
• Add warm water
Warm between your fingers, gently massage onto your face wash off with warm water.
If you are using a toner designed for oily skin apply in oily areas only. If you apply in areas which are not oily the toner can create dry patches. Use an alcohol free one with anti oxidants which help to heal the skin and reduce inflammation, remove dead skin cells and Makeup that can lead to clogged pores.
Lemon is a natural astringent, it strips the skin of excess oils, helps to tighten pores and kills acne causing bacteria.
• 1 part lemon
• 2 part water
Apply to cotton pad and gently wipe the face after cleansing.
GREEN TEA TONER….
Green tea is full of anti oxidants and is also antI aging. It helps to lock moisture in the skin and removes access oils.
• Steep 1 to 2 tea bags in boiling water, cool and store in a spray bottle . Spritz face every morning.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR TONER….
Apple cider vinegar contains alpha-hydroxy acid which helps to remove and dissolve layers of dead skin cells and oil trapped in pores resulting in Blackheads. ACV has antiseptic properties which kill acne bacteria.
• 4 parts water
Apply with a cotton pad.
After a week increase ratio 2 parts ACV and 2 parts water. This will accelerate cell turnover and you will see better results.
Scrub twice a week to help loosen and remove dirt and oil in pores.
Helps to reduce excess oils and adds a glow to the skin.
• Grind oats to a powder
• Use with water when needed
Used regularly it helps the skin to be oil free and clear.
• mash cucumber
• apply to your face
• massage into the skin gentle upward movements. Wash off with warm water.
BANANA AND HONEY MASK….
• 3 tablespoons banana
• half a tablespoon of honey
• Add a few drops of lemon
Mix and apply to your face and neck for 20 minutes wash off with cool water.
STRAWBERRY, YOGURT , EGG MASK….
• 1 tablespoon natural yogurt
• 1 egg white
• few drops lemon
Mash the strawberries with a fork , best egg white untill foaming, mix with the yogurt and lemon. Apply to your face leave for 15 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water.
Some people with oily skin avoid using moisturiser but you still need to use some. Use a light weight water based moisturiser for hydration. You can use an oil control moisturiser, avoid heavy textures stick to liquid, serum, gel formulations. Avoid products with lanolin, petroleum andisopropyl myristate which clog the skin.
Always treat your skin gently avoid using irritating products, use products which will encourage collagen production to maintain a radiant and smooth surface. Always do a patch test before using any new products and buy products labelled hypo allergenic and fragrance free.
RAW MILK CLEANSER….
Is an anti inflammatory , it soothes, moisturisers and enhances skin complexion.
• Dip cotton pad into raw milk
• leave on your face for 5 – 15 minutes , rinse off with lukewarm warm water
COCONUT OIL CLEANSER….
Is a good cleanser for sensitive skin. It contains anti oxidants, great moisturiser, helps to improve scaring, fine lines and wrinkles.
Tip : Buy an Organic Unrefined brand from a health shop
• 1 teaspoon coconut oil
• warm between your finger and massage onto your face for 30 seconds.
• Apply warm towel onto your face to open pores wait 15 – 30 seconds , remove the oil with the towel
Use 100% pure Rose water from a health shop, it helps to cool down inflammation and refreshes dull tired skin. It is also good for reducing wrinkles and tightening pore.
Scrubbing is not usually recommended for people with sensitive skin. Once a week should be fine to remove dead skin cells.
OATMEAL, BUTTERMILK AND OLIVE OIL SCRUB….
OATS remove and absorb dirt, have healing properties for dry itchy skin and also hydrates and soften the skin.
• 2 tablespoons oatmeal
• 2 tablespoons buttermilk
• mix ground oatmeal with the buttermilk and a bit of olive oil into a smooth paste
Massage onto your face for 30 – 60 seconds . Wash off with lukewarm water end with cold water
WALNUT AND WALNUT SCRUB….
• 1/4 cup natural yogurt
• 1/4 cup ground walnuts
Mix the two ingredients, rub using circular motions . Leave on your face for 5 – 10 minutes, wash off with warm water.
Yogurt contains lactic acid an acid which revitalises the skin , reduces discolouration provides smoothness to the skin and is anti aging.
• Apply plain organic yogurt without additives , leave on your face for 15 minutes or more. Wash off with cold water.
You can use Glycerin as a moisturiser 1 part glycerin to 4 parts distilled water. Massage using your finger tips , glycerin has anti inflammatory properties.
I find coconut oil nourishing and moisturising good for treating eczema and psoriasis.
You need to be consistent with your skin care regime. Focus on treating the different areas of your skin based the skin type, the oily area may be the T Zone, forehead, nose and chin rather than treating the whole face with one product.
Wash your face twice daily. Avoid bar soaps or bar cleansers they are too drying and irritating for any skin type.
If you have dry skin with rosacea use a cleanser with no irritants or fragrance. Gentle water soluble cleansers prevent irritation or dryness.
If you have oily and dry combination skin use gel based mild foaming cleansers.
CASTOR AND HAZELNUT CLEANSER….
• 1/4 cup castor oil or hazelnut ( hazelnut is a great moisturiser, it is a good oil for acne prone skin
because it helps to calm over active oil glands, contains Vitamin E
which is anti aging as well)
• 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Warm 3 to 4 drops between your fingers massage onto your face , remove using a warm face cloth, wash off lukewarm water.
TIP: DO NOT USE CASTOR OIL UNDILUTED WITHOUT THE OTHER OILS
Use 100% pure Rose water as a toner . Apply on to a cotton pad, gently wipe your face avoiding your eye area.
Scrub at least once or twice a week.
SUGAR, OATMEAL AND HONEY SCRUB….
• 1 teaspoon brown sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground oatmeal
• 1/2 teaspoon honey
Mix the ingredients, massage onto wet skin for 30 seconds. Wash off with warm water.
LEMON AND YOGURT MASK….
• 1 tablespoon natural yogurt
• 1 teaspoon lemon
• 2 drops essential lemon oil ( buy from a health shop good brand to use on your face)
Mix the ingredients, apply on your face leave it on for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
PINEAPPLE AND YOGURT MASK….
Pineapple is good for minimizing dark spots and blemishes. It has vitamin c which is good for brightening the skin. Pineapple is also antI aging.
• 1/2 a cup of crushed pineapple
• 1 tablespoon natural yogurt
Mix the pineapple with the yogurt, apply to your face and neck. Leave for 15 -20 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
Remember to use different products on different parts.
Lighter weight gels and oil absorbing products on the T Zone
Lotions or creams on the drier parts.
BASIC SKINCARE TIPS….
• Do not pick, pop or squeeze the pimples this will cause scarring
• Use oil blotting papers to remove excess oil
• Avoid touching your face to avoid spreading the oil around
• If you have greasy hair do not let it fall on your face it will transfer the oil to your face
• Do not over wash your face
• Avoid products that dry out the skin, it will cause irritation.
